Coaching Requirements
In an effort to improve the quality of soccer coaching and player performance for Alabama Soccer Association members, ASA requires the following standards be met by each club.
NOTE: Due to the recent restructuring of the US Soccer Federation's Coaching Education pathways, coaches have a 1-year window from August 2018 to meet the requirements below:
State League Minimum Coaching Requirements

ASA Division 1 Head Coach - One of the following: US Soccer "D" License (or higher), United
Soccer Coaches National Diploma (or higher)
- ASA Division 1 Assistant Coach - One of the following: US Soccer 11v11 In-Person Grassroots License, U.S. Soccer "E" License (or higher), United Soccer Coaches Regional Diploma

ASA Division 2 Head Coach - Appropriate game model course to the game model coaching: 9v9 or 11v11
US Soccer Grassroots In-Person License, US Soccer "E" License (or higher), United Soccer Coaches Regional Diploma
- ASA Division 2 Assistant Coach - Appropriate game model course to the game model coaching: 9v9 or 11v11US Soccer Grassroots In-Person License, US Soccer "E" License (or higher), United Soccer Coaches Regional Diploma
Academy Minimum Coaching Requirements
- Academy Coach - appropriate (7v7 or 9v9) US Soccer In-Person Grassroots License
RECOMMENDED COACHING STANDARDS:
ASA Club Director of Coaching or Technical Director - US Soccer "B" License or United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, National Youth Course (formerly National Youth License)
ASA Academy Director - US Soccer D License (New format - from 2018 onward), National Youth Course (Formerly National Youth License)
Alabama ODP State Staff Coach - US Soccer "D" License or United Soccer Coaches National Diploma
USYS Mid-South Conference of the National League - US Soccer "C" License or United Soccer Coaches National Diploma
ASA Division 4 - Recreational- US Soccer Intro to Grassroots Coaching Module or United Soccer Coaches Level 1 & 2
